  • POhWER Advocacy

    POhWER has worked in Sandwell since 2006. Last year we provided advocacy support to 277 Sandwell residents. Our services include: NHS Complaints Advocacy for people who wish to make a complaint about treatment provided under the NHS Independent Mental Capacity Advocacy (IMCA), including Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) and Relevant Person's Paid Representative (RPPR) service is a statutory advocacy service to support vulnerable people who lack capacity and need to make important decisions but have no representatives as defined under the Mental Capacity Act 2005. Independent Mental Health Advocacy (IMHA). Anyone who is detained in a secure Mental Health setting in Sandwell is entitled to access support from an IMHA. This contract also provides an issue based advocacy service for informal inpatients of Sandwell (Hallam St) Hospital via drop ins. Community Advocacy for any person in Sandwell receiving a care/welfare services who has age-related needs, disabilities or prescribed physical or mental health conditions. Care Act Advocacy whereby Local Authority social care teams (and designated organisations) can make a referral to our service for you using the referral form. Volunteering in Sandwell.   • Sandwell Irish Society

    Sandwell Irish Society is a registered charity that works to achieve a vibrant Irish community in Sandwell and the surrounding area, one that is engaged and empowered to play an active role in society by ensuring that people have the chance to contribute their views, articulate their needs and have an impact on policy and practice. It aims to achieve this by improving the confidence, health awareness and image of the community and by ensuring that the contribution of people of Irish birth and descent, over many years, to the economic, social, cultural and historic richness of the area is recognized and acknowledged. It works with statutory and voluntary organisations to develop activities and services in response to needs identified. It organises social, cultural, information and health events which inform people, combat isolation and engage the community.

  • Guru Nanak Gurdwara Smethwick

    Guru Nanak Gurdwara Smethwick is a Sikh place of worship in Smethwick, near Birmingham. It is one the largest and oldest Gurdwara's in Europe. Spanning a total area of about 70,000 square metres, the building is three storeys high. Building work commenced in the late 1990s and ever since the Gurdwara has been expanding in order to accommodate for Smethwick's growing Sikh community. Funding for the Gurdwara comes by way of donations from members of the local and national Sikh community. The Sikh Community from all over the Midlands first began holding religious services in a school in Brasshouse Lane, Smethwick, in 1958. This led to larger congregations of Sikh worshippers and the need arose to acquire more suitable premises for the Gurdwara. The Congregational Chapel building at 130 High Street, Smethwick, was purchased and the Gurdwara opening took place on 31 July 1961. The present Gurdwara premises are at the old church site but have been totally rebuilt and extended. In 2012, a £5million extension was completed making the Gurdwara Sahib much larger and more modern than before. The new building features a larger langar hall with a modern kitchen, lecture theatre, offices, classrooms, gym, function room and much more. Further extensive refurbishments were carried out in 2016, when the local press said that the Gurdwara attracted a weekly congregation of more than 10,000 people. Throughout the day Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji presides over the Sikh congregations. Thousands of Sikhs and non-Sikhs attend the Gurdwara Sahib to worship and visit the beautiful Gurdwara complex. Guru Ka Langar (free community kitchen) is served all day long every day throughout the year.

  • Bloomfield Over 50's Club - Tipton

    We provide leisure and recreational activities for the over 50's in Tipton area to improve their quality of life. Membership is open to all creeds, colours and parties. We meet once a week and organise meals, day trips and theatre trips

  • Vflex Sandwell

    Vflex Sandwell exists to develop opportunities for young people aged 16-25 to volunteer in the Sandwell area. We work with organisations to help them develop fulfilling, challenging and fun one-off, part time and full time opportunities for young people. These placements must be of benefit to the wider community and should develop the young person involved through increased skills and employability, social skills, self esteem and confidence etc. We also seek to recruit young people for these opportunities and regularly visit schools, colleges, youth clubs etc for this purpose. As such we are both a brokerage for volunteering opportunities and a pioneer of new placements, in tandem with local organisations

    Volunteer group to campaign for the improvements of the Thimblemill Brook in partnership with the local community, the Council and any other bodies. Working as a programme of environment,education,wildlife and community for the school and residents to become aware and responsible for the area

    A community group, facilitating development of local community groups which has commenced with involvement of various groups currently operating in the Hill Top area. We intend to develop further activity, educational and leisure opportunities and social enterprise development in and around the local neighbourhood.
