  • Afghan Society in the West Midlands

    We aim to serve Afghan population in West Midlands and its surrounding areas. In future we aim to extend our support to all Afghans in the UK. The Charity’s objectives are; a) To advance education amongst the Afghan community in the West Midlands and the surrounding area, particularly but not exclusively of Afghani languages, the provision of English Classes and supporting school children with their education. b) To relieve poverty amongst the Afghan community in the same area and throughout the UK, in particular by the provision of advise and information on issues such as accommodation and employment and by providing such persons with goods and services which they could not otherwise afford through lack of means. c) To provide facilities for the recreation and other leisure-time occupation of persons who have need of such facilities by reason their poverty or social and economic circumstances with a view of improving their conditions of life.   • Focus Birmingham

    Focus Birmingham exists to ensure that individuals with visual impairments and other disabilities are fully supported in living their lives independently and to the full. Whether they are working with someone who has been blind since birth or someone who is only now dealing with the onset of a visual impairment, they offer a range of services that are appropriate to the specific needs of the individual. These might involve the early recognition of a potential problem and preventative measures to avoid the development of that problem. Or they might provide counselling services to allow someone to come to terms with the changes to their life and to move forward positively. Through their enablement activity, they can provide aids to vision that allow people to resume areas of their lives that they thought were lost to them. Based in Harborne Focus Birmingham also have outreach facilities across the city. Each year, they work with 7,000 people across all ages and cultural backgrounds to support them in living independent and fulfilling lives.

  • Local Access Centre

    Local Access Centre Limited is a user led charity. It is committed to provide information, advice, guidance and referral services and facilitate enhancement of skills for our users. Specialising in areas of unemployment, benefits advice, training, money management such as debt advice, financial literacy and enabling users to access services and overcome barriers by providing bespoke services including provision of work related learning for young persons aged 13-25 and foster entrepreneurism skills for all. We support people with disabilities, Black, Asian, Minority and Ethnic groups (BAME), lone parents, elderly, youth and people with long term health conditions. By providing one to one and pairs sessions, focus groups, workshops, mentoring and befriending we ensure that individuals receive help and assistance that best suits our clients and users’ needs. Also we signpost people to other agencies. We ensure our presence is visible within inner city Birmingham communities. We have longstanding relationships with local schools, colleges, Job Centre Plus and various multi-faith institutions. Local Access Centre is keen to foster entrepreneurialism, we also have local SMEs work with us and these business owners value our inputs in what we do by providing work related learning and refer our users to local companies. We are highly adept and experienced in past delivery of similar projects be it in financial literacy, work related learning and community cohesion which have been supported by previous funders. By having multilingual staff, we can confidently penetrate hard to reach groups, especially where English is an additional language. Local Access Centre can provide spoken services in Gujarati please. It gives us the competitive edge over others and also to maximise our volunteer in kind support from our staff, as demonstrated by their skills composite and to give best value to our project. Our opening hours are as follows: Appointment only Mondays to Fridays: 10.00 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. Evenings by prior arrangement. Closed on weekends and UK bank holidays.

  • Community Foundation

    Our Mission Community Foundation is a grassroots voluntary organisation supporting people in inner city areas to change their lives by improving their conditions and creating opportunities for people to reach their full potential. They are a not for profit organisation. Community Foundation aims: - to encourage civic participation of marginalised and hard to reach communities and provide education and training to build capacity of individuals and organisations to improve themselves, their organisation and their community. - develop projects and services to address underlining issues of social exclusion, homelessness, health inequality, unemployment and under achievement. - develop targeted provisions to improve community safety, prevent anti social behaviour, domestic violence, drug/alcohol abuse and improve community cohesion and tolerance within marginalised and hard to reach communities. - provide a range of social, education and recreational services for hard to reach communities.

  • Heart of Oldbury Community Hub

    The Heart of Oldbury Community Hub is in the centre of Oldbury Town and shopping area. It is within easy access of the motorway network and within a five minute walk of the bus and railway stations. There is onsite parking at the area of the Hub. Set over two floors, facilities include secure interim access, wheelchair access, offices with IT equipment for hire, kitchen and toilets.Refreshments/catering can be arranged. Long term rental can be negotiated. Heart of Oldbury is used to provide social and community activities that are to benefit to the community for example, food bank, children’s and senior clubs, exercise sessions etc., with the aim of increasing community provision, reducing isolation and exclusion, improving the conditions of resident’s lives.
