Warley WASPS (Warley Amateur Swimming and Polo Sandwell)
Warley WASPS has been in existence for 130 years, founded in 1888. Continuously since that time we have competed at County, District and National level in both Water Polo and Competitive swimming. We have an annual membership total of between 500 and 600 members. Many youngsters are brought to the club to 'learn to swim'. If they have no interest in competing they then leave again, hence the variation in numbers.
We teach swimming from 4 years of age, and sit alongside the SLT (Sandwell Leisure Trust) Learn to swim programme, each providing a different version of a national programme. This works well and is compatible. We regularly recruit from local schools, and have a wide variety of abilities from all sectors of the Sandwell Community.
Our most recent contributors are our Triathlon Section, within which we have already enjoyed international recognition.
We are three sections of one club. Swimming, Water Polo and Triathlon. Each section stands alone financially but we are inextricably linked, wish some members interlinking between the three disciplines.
